Buck is celebrating 5 years today

Hi Don,

Our chocolate lab Buck is celebrating 5 years today! What a great dog...can't imagine life without him!

He celebrated out running in the snow for most of the afternoon. We have a new addition in the family this year - Buck is getting used to being a big brother. So far he's perfect with his little sister - keeps his distance for the most part, and seems aware that she's pretty precious and fragile when he does get close!
I've attached a couple of pictures. I hope all is well with you!

Sady (pics)

Good Morning Don,

I haven’t sent any messages in a while…life gets busy as you know.  I hope you and Pierette, and all the dogs are doing well!!!

Sady, Dew’s sister, goes in tomorrow to be spayed…I can’t believe it, the time went by so fast!!  I just wanted to again let you know how grateful I am for meeting you, and thank you for the all your hard work in what you do with your dogs, it pays off!!!

She is the most loving, calm, well behaved dog…I swear I couldn’t have dreamed up a better dog.

She is so gentle and calm, everyone who meets her always comments on how excellent her temperament is, and how beautiful she is.  Super smart as you know, and can play scavenger hunt with the best of them..helps to keep her entertained during this never-ending winter…she loves it especially when there’s liver and apples involved!!!  ;D

Take care,
Shauna

Hi Don

Rese went to the vet yesterday and got her shots, She weighed 14 pounds. Dr.DeMerchant loved her and so did everyone that was there, one lady said She looks like she's Royalty..They were very impressed with Rese and the breeder. I explained how you do it and the process that everyone that gets a pup has to go threw..her only comment was WOW.

Doindogs Chelsea Marie with two of her pups Sadie and Annalou

These pictures demonstrates that after struggling through a particularly brutal winter humans and their dogs benefit from getting out together. Look how happy the Labs are! Tucker update

Hi Don,

Just want to let you know that pup is doing fine, house breaking is coming along very well, his pelt is growing thick as he is adapting to outside; love’s outdoors, is playing outside as cold as it is today, seems to really enjoy playing in the snow and doesn’t mind the wind and rain, adventurous and as curious as any lab pup can be. He has spent several nights with me in snowmobile groomer and is becoming a bit of a novelty with strangers stopping the groomer to see if i’m the one with the puppy. He’s a bit stubborn which isn’t really a bad thing but like any good lab he loves to carry stuff and retrieves naturally when  I play with him.

Looking forward to enjoying his formal training but only concentrating on house breaking and the command NO, but he just catches on to things naturally as any smart pup does. The people who have good hunting retrievers or that I consider knowlegable about dogs [ not many ] are quite taken with him.The good breeding shows in his features, plays hard but remains calm and senseable when you handle him. Weighed a little over 18 lbs. on his 10 week birthday. I will text you some pics in near future and want to thank you again for getting me a pup in such short time,I was totally depressed and miserable without my old dog.

Future looks bright.

Duce is 11 years old today!

Good morning Don,

It’s been a long time since I have sent you an update on Duce and Gage!  Duce is 11 today so I figured it fitting I send a few pictures along.  They are both doing great; have had no health issues.  They love life!  We recently did a full remodel of our cottage on the water and both love that we did this.  We spend a lot more time there which means they get to swim non-stop all weekend long.  Duce is the big boy with Gage being the ‘little’ brother.

Hope all is going well with you and all your pups.

Sable LOVES the snow

Hi Don,

Bill just came in from a playing with Sable.  He commented on how much she loves the snow.  He said I should tell you.  I said "Well, she is Canadien."

I do believe she can smell it coming!  This morning she wanted to be outside, waiting...then it started snowing.  Sable is constantly asking to go outside, usually she just sticks her nose into the snow, does some 'comando' moves in the drifts or lays down in it.  I have a black towel right by the door, and when she comes inside I tell her to "bring Towel", ans she does.  Her nose, eyebrows & chin are white now, so her face blends into the snow.  She makes me laugh.

Thanks for my great Dog.

Janette

Cecelia (pup)

As for Cece, having met Puck and others from your litters I had fairly high expectations of her to start.  But yes, she is certainly more than we even hoped for.  I have heard from others (including the vet we met when we picked her up) about the "puppy phase" that dog owners have to tolerate with bad behaviours and excessively high energy...well, I don't feel like we ever had a 'difficult' phase with her.  I did have to work with her a bit on teaching her what she could and couldn't chew, and occasional nipping when she got excited, but she was an extremely quick learner and we had no problem teaching her the rules in a few short weeks.  She has wonderful and gentle energy for playing with the boys and having fun outdoors, but is calm and obedient in the house.

I did attend a few local puppy classes which were clicker and treat based approaches...in my unbiased opinion she was the smartest and fastest learner in the class (of course).  I did get a lot of useful information from the classes but Cece and I work better together without the clicker and treats.  She is extremely responsive to me once I know she's listening, so I prefer to rely on the eye contact and voice commands rather than treats.  The similarities to my own kids are quite funny - if I relied on bribing them with treats to get them to listen to me, I'd always have to walk around with a bag of sweets! :)

Our only 'naughty pup' experience since we got her happened two days ago...for the first time ever she snatched something off the table, a package of butter that I had out to soften.  She nearly finished the whole thing before I discovered it, so she has had a rather uncomfortable couple of days!  Butter snatching aside, she really is a rather perfect pup and we could not be happier.

Take care,

Sarah

Skip is a great puppy

Hello Don,

This fellow's quite a little charmer! Handsome as hell and smart as hell too. I can't believe it's been just a few days and he's already learning to tell me when he needs to go outside. And of course my daughters fallen in love with him.

Thanks for the great puppy!
