This is Dee's first attempt at the CKC title of CD

This is Dee's first attempt at the CKC obedience title of CD. She earned 196/200 first day and 195.5 for HIT (High In Trial) the second day. She needs only one more qualifying score to earn the title, 170 points or more.

Some newer pictures of Carl

Hi Don and Pierette,

I am sending you, much later than expected, some newer pictures of Carl (taken in July). As you can see, he is growing into a lovely, gentle, sleepy lab. He has tons of energy and is getting close to 40 pounds now.

He still wakes up terribly (and unnecessarily) early—but I have taken Don's advice and put his crate in the basement... and invested in ear plugs. Everyone is much happier. See—even lab owner/lovers can learn.

Hope all is well and we'll see you soon,
Michele, Carl, and family.

I entered Dee in her first obedience trials.

I entered Dee in her first obedience trials, they were in Kensington, PE.  She qualified in Novice B with 195.5, missing High In Trial by .5 to a dog with much more experience and the title of OTCH (Obedience Trial Champion).   Not bad for a lab less than one year old!   Today though she earned HIT with a score of 194.  Michael CALHOUN of Montreal judged both days.  I have been under him many times but this may be the last as he is retiring.  I have never met an obedience handler  who hasn’t said that Michael wasn’t their most favorite judge.  I have attached a copy of the score sheet to show what she had to do and where she was less than perfect.

Scotty is great

Scotty is great. I think you cheated us though . This is not a dog. He grows to a size of a dinosaur. We met his sister few days back and she is a third of his size. For the most part he is a great dog. Didn’t destroy anything at home. House training was amazing. Can’t remember when was his last accident (I think two or three times since we got him). Training also getting better. In the house there are no issues, outside is much harder. Especially when the “vacuum mode “ is on, but we will get there.

I have two concerns. First he is way too friendly. To anyone and everything (some time it can be a real problem). The second bigger problem is that his mom wants another puppy “so Scotty will have someone to play with”. So please don’t answer her call for the next year or so until he grows up a little....

Thanks

Miss Calypso

She sure doesn't look like a puppy in this one i took today.  She of course loves the beach!  Did some "off-leash" training to come to the whistle today, she did very well!

Lucy is is so smart and beautiful

Lucy is so smart and beautiful that we are all just as pleased as can be. It's such a joy to walk through the door after a hard day's work, call out "Lucy, I'm home!," and then have her gallop to greet you! I doubt that will ever get old.

She's growing well, though we're just getting over a very expensive swallowed sock.  First, I'm glad that she's no worse for wear and that we had the health insurance. Second, we've puppy-proofed the house several times so, I don't know how she managed to get the sock!  I'm sure that won't be the last bizarre thing that she eats. We love Dr Carnegie and know that clinic from a previous cat that we owned.

She's coming along quite nicely on practical commands (eg sit, stand, lie down, stay, come here, heel, fetch) and we've taught her "paw" and "high paw" for fun. She gets so much pleasure out of being clever enough to do "high paw" (i.e. "high five") that it's like a reward when she does one of the more practical commands well. I was also quite pleased at how well she responded when I introduced the whistle last week. So far, she comes immediately when I do the 4-blast command, though I haven't practised it in the face of distraction, yet.

She's a beautiful dog.

Thanks so much again,

Mike

Merlin's weekend adventures

Here's a few shots from the weekend adventures. We had quite a bit of rain so the rivers were raging. We picked up a coyote friend for Merlin (kidding, my friends mutt but we are fairly confident there is some fox or coyote inthere somewhere!). Wonderful personality though and a good hiking buddy.

Poppy at the cottage

Hi Don,

I though I would drop you a note to let you know how Poppy is doing; we are at the cottage for a few weeks and she is loving it!
She is growing like a weed and we are working a lot in her basic training.

Thanks,
Charlene

Ollie update

Hi Don,

Just thought we'd let you know we are all adjusting quite well. We just
weighed Ollie tonight and he weighed in at 17.4 lbs!

He is doing quite well with most things, but we are struggling with him
biting. We have tried applying pressure to his jowls as Tom Dokken
recommends in his book, but we aren't having much luck with that method.
We have also tried walking away, but he is often chasing after us biting us!

We are wondering if you have any suggestions?
Thanks Tracy

Rye update

Hi Don, hope your enjoying summer so far and u r staying out of trouble..lol...

With the hot weather we have been having as of late I took Rye to one of our beaches here and she found a toy to play with. we got a kick out of Rye carrying this toy up and down the rocky shore line. Rye knew this toy belong in the water and she was persistent to put it back in the water.

Here are some pics of miss Rye enjoying her summer so far.
