St. Paddy's Day Lab Walk (pics)

Hi Don,

We had 13 Labs out for our Lab Walk this morning. For awhile their were 15. Of the 15 Labs 12 were directly from Doindogs or breed from a Doindogs male or female lab. It was a beautiful morning and a great Low Tide! It was great to see all the Labs frolicking in the Bay of Fundy!!

R.I.P Jill

This sad news came overnight. Jill started Kadnook Kennel, thought by many as the best Labrador kennel anywhere. I am very lucky to have known her and very honored because I am the only person in North America she would sell to.

My first was Roo then Rose, Mud, Jill and Puck. Wayne and Jill came for a visit, summer of 2011 and I drove them to Labrador. I visited them in Australia last winter, met wonderful people there and attended a field trial when the temperature was 37C!

Jill and Wayne discovered her cancer had returned the day before I arrived. Despite this bad news Jill and Wayne treated me like a family member.

Don

Shortly after 04.00 am yesterday, Thursday 14th March 2013, Jill lost her five year fight with the cancer she had been challenged with since 2008.

Family members were at her bedside, and had been in continuous presence since the 25th February 2013.

After Jill’s Oncologist thought we would lose her on Friday 1st March, Jill rallied and greeted a constant movement of people in the week 4th to 8th March, many of whom had been in her life since day one of Kadnook Kennels. On Saturday 9th, the medical staff asked that Jill be allowed to rest and only family members be present at her bedside.

Jill fought a brave battle – and is now free from pain and the torment of this horrible disease.

Coale's new playpen?

Hi Don,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how things are going with our girl.   We are all very much in love with the very adventurous Coale.  She is so beautiful, intelligent and full of mischief!   She is sleeping well in her crate and seems to have taking a liking to TSN or Sports desk as her bedtime TV.  Coale saw the vet yesterday and is no longer on her ear drops.  She is now 15lbs and in good shape (per the vet).

John was outside yesterday putting out the garbage and took this photo of the pup.  I’m sure we will have lots of photos to send you in the future.

Thanks again for this wonderful addition to our family.  Coale has John wrapped around her little paw already!

Here is the tally for Angus

I have had an excellent first season with Angus (aka Gunny), he retrieved black ducks, teals, mergansers, spruce grouse, ruffed grouse, ptarmingan, snipe and snowshoe hare..The only thing missing was a canada goose (Geese will be on the top of my list for next year!). Angus is the best dog I have ever had.. The last day of the small game season, here on the Rock, is today so the final tally for this year is 72 retrieves..I guess Angus and I will go ice fishing next weekend!

Rod

Rod & Doindogs Angus aka Gunny

Hi Don

Peter Wilson (Doindogs Abby) has a friendship with Rod Mercer over in Newfoundland. Rod has Doindogs Angus. Peter and Rod text each other and share their Lab experiences. Peter was at my house Thursday evening and told me about Rod and Angus and what a retriever Angus has turned out to be. I am going to send you some interesting emails from Rod to Peter as well as pictures of Angus. I think you could put the body of the first email I will send to you right on your website and then you can pick and choose some pictures from the lot I will send to you afterwards.

I think you have to put Rod and Angus on your website as otherwise anyone looking at it would come to the conclusion that all the Doindogs Labs that hunt are in New Brunswick and live in or near Saint John!!!! LOL

By the way Chelsea's pup Jag at 1 year beat Angus with 79 retrieves and was only hunted up until mid December.

Crow Hunting

Hi Don,

Hope everything is going well! Tucker and I have been getting out on some sea duck hunts along the coast in the Bay of Fundy. We were fortunate to bag a Scoter but we are still looking for that Eider drake! Hopefully the weather cooperates so we can get out the last part of the season to try and get one.

I have a question for you, I was wondering if you have ever shot crows for your dog to retrieve. I was thinking it might be good practice for both myself and the dog during the off season but wanted to see what you thought about it. Should I be worried about disease and things of that nature?

Thanks,

Andrew

Pics of Trooper

Here are a few pictures from today. We took Trooper for a snowmobile ride (she rides with me on the snowmobile) to an island where we played "ultimate fetch" (which is fetch up the side of a steep hill) for an hour. All is well and she continues to be an endless source of energy and entertainment!

Puck Update

Puck earned the title RN Sunday at the Halifax show.  He also qualified in the next highest Rally O level.  He finished the CD title in regular CKC Obedience  when only 8 months old, this was his first chance near here to enter the next level, Open.  He qualified with a score of 194 ½ out of 200 points!  He is truly a remarkable dog, several remarked about his temperament.

Recent pic of Brook and Jil

“ I ran both of mine yesterday on a Mock hunt, heeled Jil and hunted Brooke...she did great off leash.  Then ran some retrieving drills and Jil found every bird and delivered to Heel and hand...scary impressive vs previous dogs.  Can't wait until hunting season”

Scot (Puck's Sire)

Good morning Don

Well at last we are receiving some relief from the scorching hot days, it is
forecast for 23-24 deg Cel for the next four days. We have constantly had
temperatures in the high 30's & low 40's with strong winds for the past
month. The bushfires are under control after two weeks of fighting them with
our countryside dry and looking like a desert.

Have noticed the days are drawing in, not daylight in the morning until 0600
hours now.

Mark Davis, a Labrador breeder here in Victoria who trains and runs his own
dogs in Retrieving Trials and has won three of the past seven National
Retrieving trials [ he won the 2012 National ], has used 'Scot' over a
repeat littermate of his previous National winner. Mark spent two days here
getting to know 'Scot', and just loves his approach to life in general and
thinks he has the best temperament. Mark tells us he will be picking out a
dog and bitch pup to keep out of the litter, he plans to work both of them
and the bitch will be put into his breeding program down the track.

A Canadian Show Judge, Mr.M. Woods no awarded a number of the Labrador breed
classes yesterday at the Australia Day Show.

Tall again soon.

Cheers to you both.

Wayne.

2012 season

Happy New Year Don.

Had a great season this year - lots of pheasant around and some great late-season mallards.  Ruby loves every minute of it, and I'm not to hard to convince to go out bird hunting either!  Here are a few pics from 2012. Hope that all is well with you.

Cheers,

Dave
