Isla Holding Her Candy Cane Toy

Hi Don and Pirette,

Merry Christmas from Isla! Here’s a picture of her practicing “hold” using her candy cane toy.

She’s doing great on all fronts and is starting to fill out with even more muscle. Not sure how that’s possible based on how much muscle she already has, but it’s happening as she approaches 2-years old.

Had her out this morning and her love of water is evident, even on a day where the wind chill is dropping the temperatures into the early double digits. Managed to keep her out of the lake, but she still found a couple of shallow ponds. She loves cracking the thin ice and lying down in the little ponds or puddles for a minute or two (there’s definitely something strange about her and cold water!) … then off she goes through the forest at top speed… the only way I know where she is to listen for the crashing around and watch for the small saplings moving around as she flies past them. On recall, I realize she’s coming in full blast… at the last second she jams on the brakes a slides up at a perfect sit, or heal (if asked) right by me… too funny. She does nothing half way!! On the topic of recall, she was on the top of her game this morning. She’d be out meandering around, about 150’ in front of me, loping along or sniffing something… a quick “HERE!” and she immediately wheels around (regardless of whether she’s on the move or sniffing) and comes flying back at top speed. Fun to watch!

All the best!
Bruce
