Brie (pics)

“This pup went to a family with an autistic son.  Brie is a Bella/Storm pup and will be his service dog.  Her new owners chose her after being referred to Doindog Kennel by previous puppy buyers and my vet.  They were originally interested when they learned my breeding  priorities place health as #1 then temperament and  trainability.”

Don,

Sorry it took so long in sending you this e-mail, but you know I am spending my time with Brie. Donnie said tonight to Justin that they were on the bottom now that Brie is here.

Justin is doing really well with her, he told his doctor today about charcoal and about him getting a new puppy and even though she isn't Charcoal, she will feel the hole he is feeling for him. That is a big step for him and he is ready for this new adventure.

He is checking on her throughout the day to make sure she is okay.

I started to train Brie today to ring the bell by the front door when she needs to use the washroom and after a couple tries, lord and behold Brie rang the bell on her own, At first I thought I was hearing things until I heard her, and behold she was sitting by the bell, I took her outside and she did her business right away. I was so excited for her and I praised her to the high heavens cause she is only 9 weeks old and I only had her for 1 day... It's not the dogs that have the issues, it's the owners......

She is exactly what I and my family needed. Here are some pics of Brie. Thank you Don from the bottom of our hearts...

Sables New Command

Hi Don,

It has been a while since I talked about how smart & wonderful Sable is.  Here are 2 things that she does;

When it is raining or snowing, She comes in soaking WET.  I taught Sable a command that makes life easier for me & her.  Her food and water bowls are by the back door.  I have a Black towel rolled up next to her bowls. ( that way no light coloured towels are covered with her Black hair)

After being out, I tell her to "BRING TOWEL".  Sable will pick up Her towel and bring it to me and I rub her dry.  She loves to be rubbed and dried off.

**This other 'Task/Job' she taught herself.

Last year, due to my Multiple Sclerosis, I was 'Suffering' from TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA.  It was attacking the nerves in my face.   I would wake up in excruciating pain.   The trick to controlling the pain was to take Medication 4 times a day, at precisely the right time.  This went on for 6 months.  Finally after trying, many oral medications and a 'Drip' (into my veins).

The Doctors tried a New drug.  It has been controlling the pain for 8 months.  It is no longer necessary to set my alarm clock or be as precise with my pills, to beat the Pain.

Sable does not know this, she still wakes me up to take my pills.  I don't need to set my alarm clock, I have the "Labrador Retriever Alarm". Sable comes to my bedside and breaths on me, stares at me & if that does not work, she will 'Flap her ears' until I get up and take my medicine. Thank you, for this wonderful companion.

Rogue (update)

Hey Don,

Haven't spoken to you since Christmas, thought I'd give you a little updateon Rogue. First off, hope your trip to turkey went well. Glad you'respreading quality pups around the globe. :)

I've been taking Rogue to the dog park almost every day for the past threeweeks. She's a different animal since I started, an hour or two runningaround with other dogs has changed her in a way you wouldn't evenunderstand. She's so calm and relaxed, Nicole put her in the kennel at 5 pmtoday, and at 7 pm when she went to let her out she actually had to wake herup to get her to come out.

She still won't fetch at the dog park, even when we're alone, i thinkthere's too many distractions, however I'm not giving up on it.
She's starting obedience classes in February, and I think a few months afterthat I'll have a canine life partner. I love her.
I've included a few pictures, cause I know you love them. Some you may havealready seen (sorry, all I have is a cellphone camera, lame).

Buck Update

Hi Don,

First of all, I love all the pictures and updates you have on facebook! Sometimes I feel like I'm looking at pictures of Buck! I saw a post about you being in Turkey...great story!

Buck is doing great...He'll be 2 years in April - it's hard to believe really. It didn't take long for him to become a permenant fixture in our lives! We don't go too many places without him, and he's usually the guest of honor...which he loves of course!

I've been training throughout the fall/winter for a half marathon that is coming up in February, and Buck has been my faithful running companion! Someone asked me the other day how far was too far to run with Buck and I don't actually know the answer. I am in no way a speed demon when I run, and we've been training for quite a few months so we've gradually been adding km's. And typicall we run 4 times a week, with one long run a week (for example today I ran 18km).

I figured I would base his distance on his behavior, but I have yet to see him slow down or seem too tired to keep going.

I'm just wondering if you have any thoughts on this?? I Googled it, but you know what the internet is like - hard to find anything very definite or reliable. Anyway, I'm sure you're very busy, but if you do have any advice that you could pass along whenever you have time I would love to hear what you think.

Here's a few pics from the past few months!

Thanks so much, Jenna, Nick & Buck

Tucker and Nala

Hi Don,

It has been a bit since I sent you an update. Both Tucker and Nala are doing well.   We did not get out hunting as much as we usually do this season.  The dogs did well when we did go, so I guess I will feed them for another year! I attached some photos.   Sometimes I wonder what Nala is thinking. The photo where she is dirty and wet represents her well.

All the best.

Evan

Turkey Pups

I have landed in Turkey with the two pups. I am much more than pleased with what I have found here than I expected. The buyers are truly interested in labradors and what is best for their dog. I couldn't be more pleased! I have been treated like a king and so have the pups, lots of pictures as proof. We went to a waterfront restaurant for dinner today and the owner of Dubi insisted on taking his pup with us. We were met at the door, the manager said that this would be the first but invited us in! Ollie

Hi Don,

Long time since our last update to you however we check your website often and really enjoy all the pictures and updates folks send you.  Ollie just turned four a few weeks ago and we thought we would send you a few recent pictures.  He has grown into quite a handsome fellow we think and he gives us lots of pleasure and exercise as he still loves his walks at the beach.  Hope this finds all well with you and Pierrette and all the best for 2012.

Puppy death prompts woman's Kijiji pet warning

Here is another example of uinformed people buying pups! I just spoke to Momberquette, her vet suspected parvo but didn't even bother to check. Parvo is extremly contageous and deadly, a good vet would have confirmed his suspicions so he could properly protect the other dogs in his care and to also warn those who have been in contact with the pup! I suggest you Google Parvovirus, you will see that it can even be taken from one place to another on car tires!! The virus can even live in the ground for several months, ready to infect other dogs. Kijiji pup shoppers are expected to be uninformed, otherwise they wouldn't be there.

Bruin

Hello Don and Pirette,

We hope you had a great Christmas. Bruin likes the tree, as the picture shows.

Bruin is growing like a weed. He weighed in at 21 lbs at the vet this morning. He is following the basic commands ( sit and come) and starting to fetch his toys.

It looks like we have him house broken as he now goes to the door when he needs out. Take care and we will keep you posted on his development.

Gotta love a stormy day in December!

Hi Don,

Just the old gal and I out in the mud today - she put in 5 good retrieves and chased my 6th duck downtide until I got worried I'd lose her, so I called her in and called it a day!

Cheers,
-Dave
